Key Australian Work Visas

Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) Visa (Subclass 482)

The primary visa for employers to sponsor skilled workers from overseas for positions they cannot fill locally. Available in three streams:

  • Short-term stream: For occupations on the Short-term Skilled Occupation List (STSOL), valid for up to 2 years.
  • Medium-term stream: For occupations on the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL), valid for up to 4 years with a pathway to permanent residency.

Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional (SESR) Visa (Subclass 494)

Designed to address regional Australia's skills shortages by allowing eligible employers in designated regional areas to sponsor skilled workers.

  • Valid for up to 5 years
  • Pathway to permanent residency after 3 years
  • Available for occupations on the Regional Occupation List
  • Requires employer to be in a designated regional area

Employer Nomination Scheme (ENS) Visa (Subclass 186)

A permanent residency visa for skilled workers sponsored by an Australian employer. Available through three streams:

  • Temporary Residence Transition stream: For subclass 482 visa holders who have worked for their employer for at least three years.
  • Direct Entry stream: For skilled workers with no prior Australian work experience or those who don't qualify for the transition stream.
  • Labour Agreement stream: For employers with a Labour Agreement in place.
